This is a cynically funny Broadway musical from an Emmy winning team of South Park makers Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Debuting in Denver in 2011, the musical describes two Mormon missionaries who travel to a remote African village to preach their religion. It shows in a funny yet, in a realistic way what it is like to preach something to people belonging to an utterly different culture. Filled with vivacious original music, perplexing plot lines and spiced up with filler words and interjections, the book can be quite a blow for people with a vulnerable psyche. On the other hand, it has attracted crowds of young fans. Sometimes we should go a different way

The musical’s popularity has cluttered it with awards and bonuses. In 2012, it was nominated for 13 Tony Awards and won all of them and set on the way towards winning Best New Musical. Other well-deserved blessings include a Grammy Award, four Outer Critics Circle Awards, four Drama Desk Awards. This show is a brilliant product of cooperation of Casey Nicholaw with three Tony nominations (for choreographing and directing The Drowsy Chaperone and Spamalot), Mr. Parker and Robert Lopez, the creator of Avenue Q.

Elder Kevin Price sang about being a missionary as the best experience imaginable for a Mormon kid. However, things get tougher than he expects, as he has to go with a weird-looking and miserable Elder Cunningham. The prospect of traveling to Uganda, a remote and unknown region of Africa, reduces his early rosy ideas of being a missionary to ashes. This is not a pleasure cruise!

They get to a village with residents being obliterated by illnesses and a reign of a brutal warlord and start preaching The Book of Mormon right away. Their first attempts end in eggs all over their faces. On the other hand, the experience sheds some light on who and what they are, what it takes to build and maintain friendship and, most importantly, their religion’s true meaning.
